Our down is a high-quality insulator that’s super-cleaned for greater purity. It’s pre-washed, and then washed again in an intense cleansing process for a uniform grade of down that is dust free and odour free.
It’s so pure, it received a “hypoallergenic” label from the International Down and Feather Lab.
At the present time, we can confirm that the down we use is sourced as a by-product of the meat industry. The birds are not alive when the down is plucked, rather the down is used following the death of the bird for the meat industry.
The overall treatment of the birds is managed for the meat industry, adhering to current standards. Lands' End do not condone the cruel treatment of birds and will try to influence the industry to improve the treatment of birds through close communication with our suppliers.

I've bought down insulated garments for years - including from L.E. Down is a fantastic insulator, BUT.
I've recently learned about the cruel methods of harvesting down from geese.
I encourage L.E. to research effective, humane winter garments and advertise them loud, so to create a new consumers'consciousness. Some items are already on the market and on your catalogue (I ordered one *today* from your associate U.S. site), but there is a lot of improvement possible in that direction.
Please.
