Home-Start Leicester, a charity which has been delivering family support in the city for almost 40 years, has had their funds boosted by local children from St John the Baptist C of E School in Clarendon Park, Leicester.
Between them they have raised £1,271.94 for Home Start Leicester’s ‘Helping Home-Start build Happy Homes’ campaign by filling up tubes of Smarties with 20 pence pieces.
Home-Start Leicester was the first to be set up in 1973, and now along with 333 other Home-Starts forms part of the UK’s leading family support charity.
Home-Start recruits and train volunteers who then offer emotional and practical support to families who are struggling to cope. Support is confidential and non-judgmental, taking place in the family’s own home. Home-Start supports parents for as long as they need it as they grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children and widen their links in the community.
The money raised by the children will go towards Home-Start Leicester’s next training course for volunteers and will also be used to give Christmas treats to families supported by Home-Start including a trip to the Curve Theatre to see a production aimed at the under threes.
Elaine Murphy, senior coordinator at Home-Start Leicester said: “We are overwhelmed with the generosity of the children, parents and staff and are delighted to receive this cheque. A big thank you to Lands’ End Clothing also who sponsored this campaign by buying the Smarties for us.”
